PeoplePublisher's note

Issue #131

As usual I have way more things I want to say here and never enough space within this publisher’s note. Perhaps, it’s time to add some pages, what do you think? We are in fact planning to increase the page count in the nearest future, but we want to hear from you – what do you want to see more of? What do you like? What don’t you like? What topics are you interested in? As long as it’s not politics – we’re listening. Your feedback is valuable and, I know, I keep repeating myself, but we are always happy to hear from you. Drop us a line over email or shoot us a message on social media. The new RussianChicagoMag.com took off nicely and our traffic has increased significantly – thanks to you, our readers. Almost every other day I get an email or a message from someone about wanting to join our team, which is a huge indicator to the fact that we’re doing something right. Of course, we can’t take everyone and we don’t have many open positions, but I just want to get one point across here for those who are, in fact, interested: don’t write very long emails and messages and just wait for an answer, try to stay on point, try to stand out somehow. Show us what you can do, catch our attention. Here’s an example: a girl wrote us an email and rolled in to our downtown office the next day. Literally on rollerblades! I’m not kidding. She strolled through the office on rollerblades right to my desk and said, ” Hi! I’m Yana. I want to work here, hire me!” Well, guess what?! She just started working with us. Now, please, don’t get the wrong idea and start rolling in on rollerblades, skateboards and bikes right into our office – that is not the point. The point is she did something different and bold and deserved a chance. Think about it and reach out to us, if you’d like. Seriously, no rollerblades needed.

I couldn’t be happier with the way our anniversary event turned out! It was wonderful to see so many friends and guests attending, it was a great setting, so many nice words were said. Such nice gifts were prepared. And I couldn’t be more proud of our team for making it all happen along with our sponsors and advertisers. All in all it was a memorable event and a milestone for our company. Thank you all.

In just two weeks’ time we have an amazing concert taking place in Chicago at a fantastic Park West Theater: Ukrainian rock band Boomboks is celebrating 10 years on stage and we are in for a treat! Do come out and see this band, they are absolutely phenomenal. The band’s frontman Andrey Hvylnyuk took the time out of his very busy schedule to answer our 40 (!) questions in this issue’s cover story. I hope, you enjoy it along with other great reads in this issue of Russian Chicago magazine. Cheers!
